Thursday's Child: Anse Chastanet Beach, Saint Lucia

Thursday, January 9, 2014
Sometimes I have a complex reason for choosing a travel post to write about. Maybe I've read a poem that reminds me of a trip we've taken. Maybe a country is in the news because of politics or natural disaster, and I'm thinking about the people we met there. Some months I've chosen a theme (like places of worship, or museums) and written about four experiences we've had on that theme.

The motivation in choosing today's post was pretty straightforward. I had never even heard of the phrase "polar vortex" until a week or two ago, and now my life is defined by it.  When we visited our friends on Lake Simcoe last week, the thermometer read minus thirty two degrees. Earlier this week in Toronto, the wind chill hit minus forty degrees. I wore snow pants on my five minute walk to Pilates class. It is very cold.

All I wanted to do today was remember a time when I was warm. It's that simple. So, ladies and gentleman, welcome to the beach in St. Lucia. Wish I was there now.

Polar vortex. I wish I never heard of that word. It was -9*F here in Pittsburgh. I think that's the coldest weather I can ever remember. I wish I was at the beach right now, too! Especially Saint Lucia. Your photos are stunning!

Oooh, I love Saint Lucia! I went a few years ago and absolutely adored it. It got crazy cold in Nashville, especially for our area - down to the single digits - and I would've loved to be on the sunny beaches of St. Lucia instead. =)

An old boss of mine has built a small resort there and now you post these photos...I must get there one day. In the meantime I will have to make do with exploring the South Pacific Islands until we are spending more time in Canada. It's crazy how inexpensive it is to go to places like Fiji and Samoa etc. Will definitely take advantage of my new location! I also find it very interesting that while you are experiencing a Polar Vortex, Southeast Queensland has just recorded the hottest summer in history! No matter what, I was destined to be in an extreme climate this month!!!

It sounds like you've been having an amazing time, Deb, and I'm envious of your warm weather! Enjoy the South Pacific, and I hope you blog about those trips.

Beth, we experienced the same dreadful weather. There seemed to be no respite, not even indoors - I've never been so miserable...
Thank you for the warm, lush, happy photos! xo

I wore snow pants to walk to the end of our driveway! It would be pretty fantastic to be sitting on a beach right now.

Even if we're just imagining it's nice to visit somewhere warm! Our temps are up today - only at -5 I think. So nice!!!

My youngest got two days off of school due to the cold but thankfully in a bit of a thaw (albeit brief)! You pictures are lovely--though it does look like a different planet right now!

I could use a beach at the moment, too! Although our weather has gotten warmer and much of the snow has melted. Great pictures! When I grow up I want to go to all the great places you've visited!
