In memory of the victims of the Paris attacks

Saturday, November 14, 2015

"In the nightmare of the dark
All the dogs of Europe bark,
And the living nations wait,
Each sequestered in its hate;"

"In the deserts of the heart
Let the healing fountain start,
In the prison of his days
Teach the free man how to praise."

"What instruments we have agree
The day of his death was a dark cold day."

All quotes from "In Memory of W. B. Yeats" by W. H. Auden.
All photos taken in Paris, France: the Eiffel Tower, Père Lachaise cemetery, city scene from the Eiffel Tower.

The Auden poem is what I used to comfort myself after 9/11. It gets harder and harder to find comfort these days. It's really such a small planet in the scheme of things.

Very sad indeed. I couldn't stop watching it on tv. My heart and prayers go out to those in Paris.

It is hard to find words in the face of this kind of senseless tragedy. Thank you for sharing this poem.

I feel sorry for every soul in this earth that is lost in the name of a perverted sense of religion or justice.

It is so terrible what happened in Paris. I don't know how you go back to living normally. I don't know how we go about living normally.
