We visited Costa Rica nearly two years ago, and it was one of our family's most cherished trips. The country was beautiful, from the rain forest to the highlands, and there were lots of activities to choose from. But all that adventure didn't keep us from spending precious time at the beach.
Since we stayed in an area that wasn't too built up, we had the beach nearly to ourselves. We loved walking along the beach, looking for shells, and we loved playing in the water. But cold-weather Canadians that we are, the real highlight was the surfing lesson.
For many of you, surfing is no big deal. But none of us had tried before, and the girls were excited about taking lessons. I feel like I should insert a comment about how gnarly the waves were, but why don't I show you the girls in action instead.
Whether we were in the mood for adventure or relaxation, this beach had it all.

Oh, this is just what I needed- beaches, and sand, and surfing! The perfect respite from cold northerly winds. (I'm just below you on the map!)
Where are the photos of you surfing? :D
Lovely! A walk on the beach is more my speed than surfing though.
Costa Rica is on my "to go" list. I have a friend that goes yearly. The beach looks lovely; the girls look like they had a wonderful time. Now here is a question for you....did you surf? Just wonderin'. I hope you are having a great week. Bonnie
Valerie and Bonnie, the only surfing I do is in front of my computer.
I've never been to Costa Rica, but many of my friends have, + they say absolutely amazing things about it. I'd love to go sometime!
The surfing looks like lots of fun. I find myself dreaming of beaches lately, so I feel like we are on the same wavelength. Happy New Year to you and your family Beth!
I've never visited Costa Rica but it's on the top of my places to visit list!
The surfing looks like a ton of fun, great to think about enjoying some warm weather right about now!
I've always wanted to go to Costa Rico. I'm not so sure about the surfing, but I'm ready for hot weather. Or even lukewarm weather. :)
What a beautiful holiday destination :D

Ohh I could go for a trip to the beach right about now! Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog, too, I really appreciated it :)
Oh, boy, does that look appealing!!! My sister has been to Costa Rica and loved it...maybe it's time we booked a trip! I bet my boys would want to take surfing lessons, too :)
Such a beautiful beach…looks heavenly! Your photos of the girls learning to surf are really fun! Sounds like a wonderful time!
I have so many friends who have gone to Costa Rica. K=Looks like good times all around. And I used to love surfing!
Surfing in Costa Rica! Fun!
What a beautiful, uncrowded coastline! Your girls look like they had a fun time...standing up too~good job!
There is nothing better than going to the beach for relaxation. Thanks for bringing a bit of warm summer to a cold winter night!
I have some friends who loved Costa Rica so much they moved there! I've never been...which is strange since we've been to nearly all the Caribbean islands. Fun they learned to surf...the waves aren't huge. The one day my granddaughter took a lesson down here, there were hardly any waves at all! Difficult to learn when there's no surf.
my mom has been threatening to retire to costa rica here in a couple of years, so i'll be sure NOT to tell all the wonderful things you said about it. that's just too far away. :)
Costa Rica is so gorgeous! I've been there, but up in the mountains. Definitely need to get to the beach! Look wonderful. ;-)
How fun, sure would love to be there right now!
At this time of the year with snow on the ground, it is fun to look at beach photos.
My father went to Costa Rica - now about 10 years ago and was enchanted and since them I have been figuring out a way to go. You just cemented my desire.
How fun to have the beach to yourself and your girls look like they had a great time. It's nice to look at these sunny photos in lieu of having a little get away this winter.
We visited the Pacific coast on Costa Rica in March 2011, and it was the most wonderful trip we'd taken in many years. Brava to your girls on the boards. While there, Bill took surfing lessons; the oldest and tallest person in his class--it was a real challenge that he ultimately met the final day.
We want to visit Costa Rica. This beach looks wonderful.
